Best of 2005 addendum (cross-posted)

A little while back I posted my Best of 2005 mix CD tracklist.  Well, as time went on - especially after getting a few new CDs at Christmas - I realized that my mix was really severely lacking a lot of good music and I really need more than one CD to get it all in.

So, without further ado, My New and Improved Best of 2005 Mix:

Disc One:

  1. Antony and the Johnsons - Hope There's Someone
  2. Final Fantasy - This is the Dream of Win and Regine
  3. Mazarin - The New American Apathy
  4. Animal Collective - Grass
  5. Seabear - Drunk Song
  6. Neva Dinova - Oh
  7. Tom Vek - A Little Word In Your Ear
  8. Kasabian - Club Foot
  9. The Crimea - Opposite Ends
  10. Of Montreal - Oslo in the Summertime
  11. The Go! Team - Huddle Formation
  12. The Narrator - This Party's Over
  13. Pilotdrift - Passenger Seat
  14. Montag - Perfect Vision
  15. Fog - We're Winning
  16. Xiu Xiu - Yellow Raspberry
  17. Shearwater - Mountain Laurel
  18. Sufjan Stevens - Casimir Pulaski Day
  19. John Vanderslice - Angela
  20. Sigur Ros - Hoppipolla
  21. Grizzly Bear - Service Bell

Disc Two:

  1. Man Man - 10 lb. Moustache
  2. The Blue Van - Product of DK
  3. LCD Soundsystem - Daft Punk is Playing at My House
  4. Deathray Davies - Chainsaw
  5. Nine Black Alps - Cosmopolitan
  6. Death From Above 1979 - Black History Month
  7. Ninja High School - NHS Is Gonna ROCK YOU!
  8. Goldie Lookin' Chain - Guns Don't Kill People (Rappers Do)
  9. Gorillaz - White Light
  10. Junior Senior - Can I Get Get Get
  11. Casiotone For the Painfully Alone - Jeane, If You're Ever In Portland
  12. Low Frequency In Stereo - Man Don't Walk
  13. Frog Eyes - Russian Berries, But You're Quick
  14. Wolf Parade - Dear Sons and Daughters of Hungry Ghosts
  15. Clap Your Hands Say Yeah - Upon This Tiday Wave of Young Blood
  16. Architecture In Helsinki - Cemetary
  17. The Grates - Trampoline
  18. Arctic Monkeys - Fakes Tales of San Francisco
  19. Giant Drag - yfimd
  20. Mixel Pixel - Mantis Rock
  21. Asleep in the Sea - Dance On
  22. Andrew Thompson - We're in Business

Disc Three:

  1. Mice Parade - The Boat Room
  2. Efterklang - Step Aside
  3. The Shout Out Louds - The Comeback
  4. Metric - The Police and the Private
  5. The National - All the Wine
  6. The Frames - Finally
  7. Mew - Special
  8. Okkervil River - No Key No Plans
  9. The Diskettes - 1 2 3 4 5

  14. Hidden Cameras - Boys of Melody
  15. Broken Social Scene - 7/4
  16. Les Mouches - Close To You
  17. The Jim Yoshii Pile-Up - Black and Gold
  18. Deep Dark United - Here Comes Mine
  19. Say Hi To Your Mom - Yeah, I'm In Love With An Android
  20. The Decemberists - Eli, the Barrow Boy
  21. Album - Reversible

And believe me, if I had the albums, there would be enough for a whole 4th disc.  I mean, come on: Oceansize?  Elbow?  Porcupine Tree?  Devendra Banhart?  BRMC?  Irving?  Boards of Canada?  Minus the Bear?  I could keep going...so many great albums, not enough money!

Anyway, this goes the same as before: if you want a copy of my Best of 2005, send me an email: acelebrationofsound at yahoo dot com.

Song ID help.

Hi, all. I'm new to the group. I recently stumbled upon a song from an unidentified mix CD that I really, really like. The problem is that the song came with no info re: band, track title, album info, anything. I tried google searching the lyrics, but with no luck. So I was hoping that, in the wide world of music lovers, someone will recognize these lyrics and be able to help me ID this song!

Here are a few lyrics that I can understand:

"gimme something that I need/something I can have"
"she's got it in for me/yeah, baby, honestly"
"they just want to suck you in to being one of them"
"have another cigarette/have another cigarette/in a room where lovers go/talking on the telephone"

The chorus sounds like "they all drink," or "they all trade" or "they all something-or-other."

If anyone has a clue what I'm talking about, please let me know! I'm dying to hear more of this band!

    God, I wish I knew!

the longest day- slumber

Hi all

i'll be brief. The Longest Day is a musical project undertaken by myself and slowlight, which ran for most of the late 1990s. Our biggest regret was that we never got together and recorded our stuff, and have been promising ourselves for years to get it done. Well in August this year we spent a week at my place recording an album, using old drum tracks and loops that we recorded years ago.

It's a result of our love of space rock and indie stuff - flying saucer attack, MBV, Crescent, Mogwai etc - the influences of which can definitely (and unashamedly) be heard throughout.

Our main aim is to get it out there to as many interested people as we can. If anyone would like a copy, we're more than happy to post you a freebie. send an email to thelongestday at optusnet.com.au and we'll get one to you.

there's some cover art attached...
